That being said... he is a ROOKIE. For all of you band-wagoners who were so excited to have a rookie starting QB, suck it up and accept the fact that adjusting to the NFL is a long process. There is no substitute for experience... and Mark has very little. He threw 10 completions to Jet players and 5 to Bills players. Ugly.
Just for the record the Bills just hit a long field goal to win the game... obviously I am not surprised.
So, as I was saying, Marks performance was not the story of the game. The REAL story was how our "ELITE" defense struggled against a back up QB and a daisy fresh offensive line. The Bills have a C- starting QB, so obviously their back-up, Ryan Fitzpatrick, is no superstar. I guess it doesn't matter if you are Henne starting only your second NFL game, or a journeyman, career back up, Fitzpatrick, you can light up our defense.
I won't go into the nasty details of this game... to make it simple, we played with no heart and let a very poor NFL team hang around long enough to squeak out a win. I will ask a few questions... and my questions about this team are starting to pile up.
- Is there a point where Rex has to pull Sanchez? Two of the last three games have been horror shows. This is why it s such a bad idea to give a kid 50 million and throw him to the lions. He could very well be shell shocked by seasons end... and worthless.
- If Thomas Jones is averaging over 10 yards a carry and Neon Leon is at almost 7 yards per touch.... why in Gods name is Shonn Greene on the field???? I like #23 as a prospect, but that was no the time to bring him in.
- What happened to Dustin Keller? The guy was a young phenom, and his amazing toe tapping touchdown week two helped seal the victory against the Pats. Since then he looks about as impressive a first round pick as Vernon Gholston. I point the finger at him as one of the key players that literally and figuratively dropped the ball for us this week.
- When will Rex start setting some real goals for this defense? Instead of trash talking and twittering, how about calling them out. Let them know that they need to score if we are going to win. We have a monstrous pay roll, and a large chunk of it goes to the defense. Our "playmakers" need to start forcing turnovers and taking to the house.
- How bad is Jenkins Hurt??? If he misses any significant time, kiss our run defense and pass rush goodbye. I know we haven't had very much of either to brag about, but things can get worse.
- Why was the ball not thrown to Clowney? Not one target all day. Not even a reverse or a screen.
- What was the deal with that holding call at the end of regulation? Jones runs hard up the middle and sets up what would be about a 25 yard field goal. A call is made by the back judge, who is about 20 yards behind the line of scrimmage. It cost us the game, no doubt. I am so disgusted with the calls and non-calls that have have cost the Jets countless games. Woody Johnson needs to throw his weight around a little and level the playing field.
- Why didn't we attack when we got the gift right before half time? Our special teams caused a turnover with one minute left in the first half. There is no question in my mind that we had no intention of trying to get into the endzone. The Jets called 3 ulta-conservative plays and Feely misses the field goal that would have ultimately won the game. When you coach with no balls in the NFL you rarely win.
- Why did Rex waste a time out on an ill-advised challenge that meant the difference of 6 yards? Rookie head coach... rookie QB... looked good on paper didn't it?
- And finally... WHAT IN GODS NAME was Rex thinking calling that fake field goal in O.T.? That was just pathetic.
Well Rex, you seem to have a love affair with the NY press. The Honeymoon is over big boy, now you are going to see why head coaches get paid so much in NYC!
