2009 Schedule

Taking a look at the Jets 2009 regular season schedule it’s very hard to predict the team’s record. Let’s take a closer look…

1 Sep 13 NYJ @ HOU Reliant Stadium 1:00 PM CBS (Win)

Jets open on the road, like usual.  If I’m not mistaken we have opened the season at home like 10 or 12 times in the teams 40+ years of existence. However, the Texans have struggled for an identity since their inception and I could see this as a very good chance to start the season the right way with a win.

2 Sep 20 NE @ NYJ Giants Stadium 1:00 PM CBS (Loss)

Carbon copy of last years week two, Pats at home. The Pats ate Clemens lunch when he faced them in 2007. If he’s our starter their revamped secondary may give him another day to forget. Speaking of secondary’s, our new look squad will have its first and probably most hearty challenge of the season. Galloway, Welker, Moss, Watson. If Brady is 100% by early September expect any weak link in our defensive chain to be exposed.

3 Sep 27 TEN @ NYJ Giants Stadium 4:15 PM CBS (Win)

This should be a great game. Our LB’s will be in the spotlight showing how disciplined they can be holding their gaps and trying to contain the Titans dynamic running attack. Anyone else think we should wear our ‘Titans of NY’ throw backs on the field week 3????

4 Oct 04 NYJ @ NO Superdome 4:05 PM CBS (Loss)

If the Saints end up with Benie Wells who they are targeting in the draft this year, their high flying passing game will be equaled by the one two punch of Reggie Bush and his fellow 1st round rookie counter part. And I’m sure Mr. Vilma will have something to prove.

5 Oct 12 NYJ @ MIA Dolphin Stadium 8:30 PM ESPN (Win)

I frankly see last year as a fluke. The Miami defense will continue to improve in 09’, but I think Chad will have a very ruff time against Sheppard, Revis, Rhodes and Leonhard. Don’t be shocked if Vernon Gholston starts to shine at this point of the season. Weeks 2,3, and 4 provide some major challenges to our defense. This will be the first week they can really show if they are grasping the new system.

6 Oct 18 BUF @ NYJ Giants Stadium 4:15 PM CBS (Win)

3-2 and going home to face the Bills. I hate the Bills. I watched them destroy the Jets back in the early 90’s.  Now that they have been ‘rebuilding’ for about 12 or 13 years I have enjoyed watching them struggle. Looking at the Bills schedule I don’t see them having the great start they had last season. I see their collapse during the second half of 08’ carrying over to 09’. By week 6 Terrell Owens should be mouthing off. Hopefully the chaos on their sideline will equal a win for the green and white.

7 Oct 25 NYJ @ OAK Oakland Coliseum 4:05 PM CBS (Win)

I am sure by week 7 the always unstable Raiders will have benched Jamarcus Russell and turned to Jeff Garcia. Hopefully we are not on our 2nd or 3rd QB by this point of the season. Now that Rob Ryan and Al Davis have parted ways I don’t see the raiders D being too much for us to handle. We win by a field goal in a low scoring game on the west coast.

8 Nov 01 MIA @ NYJ Giants Stadium 1:00 PM CBS (Loss)

Twice in four weeks. That can be very dangerous. Lots of cheers for Chad. The talented coaching staff in Miami makes the proper adjustments to pull out a close one in the Meadowlands.

9 Bye

Perfect mid-season bye week!

10 Nov 15 JAC @ NYJ Giants Stadium 1:00 PM CBS (Win)

No one knows who the Jags will be week 1 of the season not to mention how they may evolve by week 10. Can Jones-Drew carry the load with Taylor out of the picture? Will they establish a true #1 wide out? Will they take a QB in the first round and shatter Garrard’s confidence? Who knows? Coming off a bye week and playing at home I see us being ready!

11 Nov 22 NYJ @ NE Gillette Stadium 4:15 PM CBS (Loss)

This could end up being a flex game. Rex needs to at least split the season series. By this point in the season we will know who we are. My hope is we are good enough to win at The Razor. My heart says yes, my mind says… not this year Rex.

12 Nov 29 CAR @ NYJ Giants Stadium 1:00 PM FOX (Win)

Another dynamic young running combo. Should be a similar challenge as week3 vs. the Titans. I feel Jake Delhomme’s ship has sailed and he may be benched by this point of the 09’ season. I don’t see Carolina being a force next year and I think we should stand strong at home.

13 Dec 03 NYJ @ BUF Rogers Centre 8:20 PM NFL NETWORK (Loss)

The jets go international. Our first regular season game outside of the USA. I think the Bills will be an OK team next year and they always play us hard. I don’t see us sweeping them.

14 Dec 13 NYJ @ TB Raymond James Stadium 1:00 PM CBS (Win)

Lots of Jet fans in the sunshine state. I expect a lot of green and white jerseys in the stands for this game. Tampa is in an official rebuilding mode. New coach, new QB, new offensive and defensive schemes. No more Kiffin or Gruden. This team will play hard for their rookie head coach, and they will be most dangerous at home. However, I think we will be too much for them.

15 Dec 20 ATL @ NYJ Giants Stadium 1:00 PM FOX (Loss)

They are young but should be in the playoff hunt late in the season. I’d also expect our young signal caller (who ever he may be) to be beat up and pretty worn out by this point of the season. I think we will be out of steam as a whole by this point.

16 Dec 27 NYJ @ IND Lucas Oil Stadium 4:15 PM CBS (Loss)

I think Peyton will have one hell of a comeback season in 09’. Rex is familiar with him and knows how to make him uncomfortable in the pocket. We match up well with this team and will be fighting for our playoff lives. Manning is a God in Indy and home field may be the deciding factor in this one.

17 Jan 03 CIN @ NYJ Giants Stadium 1:00 PM CBS (Win)

8-7 and coming off two hard losses. Win or loose I feel we will need at least 11 wins to make the playoffs (remember the Pats missed the post season with 11 last year) and I just can’t see us getting there. Coles returns to the meadowlands for a game with little to no playoff ramifications for either team.

I see the NY Jets at either 8-8 or 9-7 this year. Making the playoffs shouldn’t be the goal of Jet fans this year. Our goal should be establishing the QB of the future and finding our #1 go to wide receiver. My hope is that Kellen Clemens and Vernon Gholston step up and we can really feel comfortable and confident in the direction Tannenbaum has this team going. If our QB situation is still up in the air and we are below .500 by the end of 09’ I don’t see Woody keeping Mr.T around for another season.
